It looks like it is the time of Northern Luzon to get into the big picture of Philippine tourism. This hope was raised by the recent news on big Chinese investments and soft loan concessions that President Duterte was able to secure for infrastructure development. The Central Luzon office of the Dept. of Tourism or DOT is looking at making the entire North Philippines as a primary regional and international tourism draw. DOT Central Luzon Director Ronnie Tiotuico said that they are looking at the forthcoming massive infrastructure developments as the key to the development of many remote areas in the region to world-class destinations because of improved accessibility. Director Tiotuico said that there is a need to link the international gateways of North Philippines which are Subic and...

You will not surprise anyone with around-the-world travel in the 21st century. People span the globe by land, water and air, on foot and by bicycles, alone and with their families. Generally speaking, any around the world travel is, in fact, a journey home with the longest detour. Nonsense! Thus, around the world travelers are forced to think of new vehicles – from stilts to a children's scooter, or of new conceptual ideas. Valery Shanin can not complain about lack of ideas. The professional traveler, writer and journalist, began his first circumnavigation back in 1999. He returned home only in 2002, traveling mostly hitchhiking. On the one hand, he has spent 1080 days for this travel. And on the other – only 280 dollars! This way having made one of the most economical circumnavigations...
Interview conducted by Eileen Hurst. Huebner was drafted into the U.S. Army in March of 1943 at the age of 17. He originally signed up with the Army Air Corps, but his vision deteriorated after flight training. He then volunteered for the infantry, and was sent to the South Pacific. He describes the conditions his squad encountered in New Guinea, including both the lack of fresh food and a base camp. He contracted both Dengue Fever and malaria while in New Guinea. Huebner's main job in the South Pacific was to provide security to the radar technicians that would set up portable radar units wherever they could. He fought and received medals in the Philippine, British New Guinea, and Dutch New Guinea liberations. Huebner returned home in December of 1945, but remained in the reserves after t...

Not knowing very much about the Philippines before I visited, I was pleasantly surprised by Manila and Subic and how they both reminded me of America. The highlight of the trip was getting a chance to visit a Vietnamese boat people refugee camp near Baataan. I met some friendly Pinoys too. The food was great. The transportation readily available. And the landscape extremely beautiful. There are plenty to see and do as well. -------------------------------------------------- About Me: I'm Kyle Le and I live, travel, and eat in Vietnam and many Asian countries.
